As the platform ages Toyota has changed suppliers on some of our beloved 2jz components.  In the past few years we've experienced finish quality and corrosion issues with the as delivered OEM oil pumps.   In order to combat this we take the pumps apart and prep them.  If there is measurable corrosion inside the pump, that pump is rejected and sent back to toyota.  Any surface that interacts with another is deburred and a minimum clearance of .003 is set between the snout of the crank gear and the oil pump housing. It takes right around an hour to prep the pump and package it for a trouble free installation.  These are not huge money makers but a way to keep end users away from engine failures.
